New Frontiers in Research Fund – Exploration Grants

Opportunity Overlay

The New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF) Exploration grants support research that pushes boundaries into exciting new areas.

The NFRF is a flagship initiative of the Tri-Agency (CIHR, NSERC and SSHRC) to support international, interdisciplinary, fast-breaking and high-risk research. Launched December 2018, Exploration grants generate opportunities for Canada to build strength in high-risk, high-reward and interdisciplinary research.

Researchers are encouraged to undertake research that would defy current paradigms, and bring disciplines together in unexpected ways and from bold, innovative perspectives.

Value: $125,000 per year over 1 or 2 years (includes $25k/year indirect costs)
Internal deadline: August 18, 2025
