Black Research Network Postdoctoral Award

Opportunity Overlay

The Black Research Network (BRN) Postdoctoral Award provides funding to support the recruitment of Black-identifying postdoctoral scholars at the University of Toronto.

By enhancing postdoctoral funding packages for incoming postdoctoral fellows, the award supports more competitive and sustainable opportunities for early-career researchers to advance their scholarship and strengthen their careers. It is open to scholars within five years of completing their doctoral degree – a critical stage of professional development.

The award reflects the university’s commitment to addressing the underrepresentation of Black researchers in academia and the BRN’s commitment to advancing equitable pathways for the next generation of researchers.

The faculty supervisor is responsible for submitting the completed application package in collaboration with the postdoctoral scholar. Applications should be submitted via the online application form

Application deadline: September 14, 2026 by 11:59 p.m. (EST)

The BRN launched in October 2021 at the University of Toronto. We support Black excellence by enhancing the visibility and impact of Black-led research, sustaining a cross-divisional, interdisciplinary network of Black scholars and facilitating robust research engagement across U of T.
