Ahmed Ali Ilmi is an Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, in the Department of Global Development Studies at the University of Toronto Scarborough. An interdisciplinary Black Studies scholar, Dr. Ilmi’s research focuses on cultural identity, diasporic politics, and the intersections of Blackness and Africa.

He has published extensively on African philosophy, gender, development, youth identity politics, and the education of Black boys. His article, “Race, Policing, and Black Males in Canadian Society,” was published in the Journal of Race, Ethnicity and the City (2025). In recognition of his impactful scholarship and community engagement, Dr. Ilmi was awarded the GOWN 2024 African Scholars Community Development Award.
