Data Science Certificate for U of T Doctoral Students

In collaboration with the School of Graduate Studies, the Data Sciences Institute (DSI) offers a Data Science Certificate exclusively for U of T Doctoral Students.

This not-for-credit certificate equips participants with practical data science skills that can complement their academic research and support broader career development goals. As data science forms the foundation for many modern AI tools and techniques, the Certificate helps build essential skills in both data science and AI. The Certificate includes a module on deploying AI applications, including large language models (LLMs), to reflect emerging trends and growing student interest. 

Given the need for data sciences upskilling across a wide range of disciplines and careers, the Data Science Certificate content is suitable for students from a broad range of academic disciplines with no prior data science experience. 

Upcoming sessions: 

Fall 2025 starts September 30, 2025 
Live sessions held Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:00–5:30 PM ET 
Now open for applications 

Winter 2026 starts February 23, 2026 
Live sessions held Mondays and Wednesdays 
Students may request to be notified when application becomes available 

Sessions are delivered synchronously online with additional optional support and facilitated work periods with learning support staff. With the financial support of SGS, the DSI is able to offer the Certificate at a highly subsidized rate of $300 for students. Given the high demand, we recommend applying early.
