Using AI-Powered Literature Search Tools for Academic Research – CRIS

Event Overlay

A vast number of AI-powered literature search tools have been developed and marketed to researchers in the past few years, including Elicit, Undermind, Consensus.

In 2024, the University of Toronto Libraries subscribed to new AI assistants in the popular scientific research databases Scopus and Web of Science. Researchers need to understand how these AI tools work as well as the benefits and limitations of these tools to effectively incorporate them in their research workflow.

This two-hour workshop provides researchers an opportunity for guided instruction and practice using Scopus AI, Web of Science Research Assistant (RA), and other academic AI search engines to explore the literature. Using demonstrations and case examples, participants will learn about tool features and functions, practice using the tools, and critically evaluate their output. This workshop builds off the introductory webinar: Introduction to Scopus AI and Web of Science Research Assistant (RA) to Explore Literature – Apr. 9, 2025.

Intended audience:

  • Researchers from any discipline are welcome, however, please note that Scopus and Web of Science databases cover mostly science and interdisciplinary content. Additional tools may be relevant to other disciplines to varying degrees.
  • This is a limited enrollment workshop. Preference will be given to faculty researchers.
