JHI SSHRC Grant Writing Bootcamp 2024

Event Overlay

Are you planning to apply for a SSHRC Insight Grant or Insight Development Grant in an upcoming competition? Do you feel daunted by the SSHRC grant writing process? Sign up for the Jackman Humanities Institute’s (JHI) 8-week intensive grant writing bootcamp, which is designed to help you prepare a winning grant application that advances your research program in exciting ways.

The program, now in its third year, is intended to support tri-campus faculty members in the humanities and qualitative social sciences who are applying for a SSHRC Insight Grant or Insight Development Grant.

The bootcamp focuses on the three main components of any SSHRC funding application: the Detailed Description, the Knowledge Mobilization plan, and the Budget. The sessions are divided into:

  • Speaker sessions, which feature recent SSHRC grant recipients who will discuss and demonstrate their successful applications
  • Spark sessions will be led by divisional research officers who will provide practical grant writing exercises, tips, and best practices for preparing the core sections of your application
  • Co-working blocks, which are led by the JHI Research Officer and feature short intensive writing bursts, visualization strategies, and dedicated writing time to foster creative thinking and the completion of each draft section. The co-working sessions are optional

The final week of the bootcamp features a peer review session. Participants will complete the bootcamp with a working draft of their application and valuable peer review feedback from their academic colleagues.

Tuesdays (online) and optional alternate Thursdays (hybrid) from June 4 to July 23, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

The first session (June 6) and last session (July 23) will be 2-hour sessions.

Participation in the bootcamp requires attendance at all the Tuesday sessions.

Seats are limited, so apply early! The deadline for applications is 4:00pm (EDT), May 6, 2024.
