Dr. Shawna-Kaye Tucker is an Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics in the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education. Her research and teaching explore second language learning, writing, and literacy development. With a particular focus on children, Dr. Tucker also investigates how language and literacy emerge in both school and out-of-school settings, including the home and community.
She currently holds a SSHRC grant for research exploring home language and literacy environments in the Caribbean and their relationships with reading achievement. Dr. Tucker’s work has also drawn attention beyond academic circles and has been featured by media outlets such as the BBC.
